Terms & Conditions

These terms apply to all chimney sweeping work carried out by Flue Fighter.

Booking & cancellation

We understand plans change. If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please give us at least 24 hours' notice so the slot can be offered to someone else. With more than 24 hours' notice there is no charge, and we will gladly move your appointment to the next convenient date. Where an appointment is cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or Jeremy arrives and is unable to gain access to the property, a £45 call-out fee may be charged to cover travel and reserved time.

Unable to sweep & inspection fee

To protect your home and our equipment: if an appliance is still hot or warm to the touch, or contains burning embers, it cannot be safely swept with our HEPA extraction equipment. If an appliance or flue is found to be dangerous, improperly installed, or inaccessible, the sweep cannot be carried out. In these instances, an inspection and assessment fee of £50 applies in place of the standard sweep charge, and an official HETAS inspection report or warning notice will be issued advising on any necessary remedial steps.

Preparing for your visit

Please make sure the appliance has not been used for at least 12 hours and is completely cold, and clear the hearth area so dust sheets can be laid. If your stove or flue was fitted or relined in recent years, there should be a chimney notice plate — a small metal or laminated plaque with your chimney's technical specs, usually inside or next to the fuse box, in an under-stairs cupboard, near the boiler, or fixed by the hearth. Having it ready (or a photo of it) helps us complete your HETAS certificate, but if you can't find it, we will locate it during the inspection. Please allow up to 30 minutes either side of your booked arrival time.

Payment terms

Payment is due on completion of the work. Cash, card and bank transfer are all accepted. Prices quoted are for a standard single-flue sweep; additional work is agreed with you before it is carried out.

What's included in a standard sweep

A full brush and vacuum sweep of the flue, a visual inspection of the appliance and accessible flue components, a smoke draw test, and a HETAS sweeping certificate issued on the day. Furniture and floor coverings around the hearth are protected with sheets during the work.

Liability

Flue Fighter is fully insured and holds £2m public liability cover. Pre-existing defects found during a sweep will be reported to you, but Flue Fighter is not liable for faults or damage that existed before the visit. Please ensure the appliance has been cold and unused for at least 12 hours before the appointment.

Certificates & records

A HETAS sweeping certificate is issued for every completed sweep. A record of your appointment and certificate is retained for six years so replacement copies can be issued if you need one for insurance purposes.

Complaints

If something isn't right, please get in touch within 14 days at hello@fluefighter.co.uk. Complaints are acknowledged within 2 working days and we aim to resolve them within 14 days. Unresolved issues can be escalated to HETAS.

Utility Warehouse referral offer

Jeremy Irving is an authorised Utility Warehouse partner. Households that sign up to at least two Utility Warehouse services (energy, broadband, mobile or insurance) through him receive one free standard single-flue sweep, claimed on their next booked appointment. The offer is limited to one free sweep per household, applies to a standard sweep only (extra work, second flues and specialist access are charged as normal), cannot be exchanged for cash, and is confirmed by Flue Fighter once the Utility Warehouse sign-up completes. Any savings on your bills are provided and quoted by Utility Warehouse, not Flue Fighter, and your Utility Warehouse services are governed by Utility Warehouse's own terms. Flue Fighter may receive a commission from Utility Warehouse for the referral.
