Sweeping chimneys in Chichester
Chichester is the western end of my patch, and it's a run I'm happy to make. The city centre has plenty of Georgian townhouses with original flues, while the villages out towards the Witterings and Bosham are full of cottages with inglenooks and later stove installations.
Older city flues are often tall, offset and shared between rooms, so they need a methodical sweep rather than a quick brush through. I check the pot, flaunching and any accessible parging as part of the standard visit and tell you plainly if something needs attention.
Coastal air around the harbour villages is hard on chimney metalwork, and corrosion up top is one of the most common causes of rain and debris getting down a flue. Every visit includes a smoke draw test and a HETAS sweeping certificate for your insurer.
